Don’t Get Lost In Life: Lessons From Christopher Robin

I was invited to an all-inclusive press event by Disney and ABC TV for the premier of The Nutcracker and The Four Realms.  All opinions are my own.

I seriously had the hardest time writing this film review for Christopher Robin.  Not because there was nothing to say, but because there were so many motiving and inspiring life lessons that I did not know what I should focus on.  If you have not seen Christopher Robin, don’t worry I won’t spoil it for you…. just encourage you to snag a copy on Digital or Blu-Ray TODAY!

Christopher Robin — now a family man living in London — receives a surprise visit from his old childhood pal, Winnie-the-Pooh. With Christopher’s help, Pooh embarks on a journey to find his friends — Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Piglet, Rabbit, Kanga and Roo. Once reunited, the lovable bear and the gang travel to the big city to help Christopher rediscover the joy of life.

While I feel that Christopher Robin is an excellent movie for kids and families, as I watched the movie I was so also convicted.  To see Christopher Robin as an adult, dealing with the things that we all deal with as adults – work, work stress, work pressure, and more work that can pull us away from ourselves and our family, it was an eyeopener for me.  We can get so caught up in everything going on and forget what is really important.

One of my favorite quotes in the movie was when Winnie the Pooh said, “I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I’ve been.”  I’m not sure if you struggle with being faithful to a fault, but I do.  In times past, I felt really bad when I walked away from people, things, or places.  It felt good to hear that even Pooh understands that walking away is sometimes necessary for you not to get lost in life.  Here are three things I learned from Christopher Robin:

  • Don’t dwell in the past – It’s okay to reflect on your past and learn from your experiences but be okay with walking away from those negative thoughts, places and people.
  • Don’t be a victim – Getting attentions feels good, I know. But blaming other and not taking responsibility for your actions, or the lack thereof only prevents you from growing and moving forward.
  • Learn to be present – Living in the moment is a great way to show love and appreciation for those around you. Allow your mind to settle and focus in on how you feel, what you think, and what’s happening in that moment.
