It’s been four years since my very first high blood pressure health scare.  I remember looking at the paramedic’s face as he looked at me while trying to get an oxygen mask on me.  I was terrified, I did not realize that my high blood pressure could lead to a stroke…or worse cause a heart condition.

What Drove Me To Healthy Living

After arriving and being admitted in the hospital, immediately the doctor began to explain the severity of my condition.  Desperately, I tried not to worry but with a history of heart trouble in my family it was hard not to.  My first thought was my grandmother.  She suffered from high blood pressure and had heart problems.  My grandmother died very young from a heart attack; she was only 58.  Cardiovascular disease is responsible for roughly 1 in 3 deaths.  As you can imagine my fear was getting the best of me.

As the night went on and my blood pressure started to decline, I felt more at peace.  Before discharging me, the doctor talked with me about medications and my diet.  I had to change my lifestyle to avoid heart issues.  It would have been nice to have access to “The Let’s Be Healthy Heart Box”.

The Let’s Be Well Healthy Heart Box is perfect for those newly diagnosed with a heart condition.  It will help you take better care of yourself by focusing on five key areas: 1. Eating Better 2. Relieving Stress 3. Being Active 4. Managing Blood Pressure 5. General Heart Health Education.  I am still struggling with high blood pressure, so I was glad to get the Starter Box to help me manage my cardiovascular health.

Cooking in Color Cookbook and Walking Weights

Of all the items in the box I’m most excited about is the Cooking in Color Cookbook.  I struggle with my eating…I mean I am so much better but can stand to improve.  This cookbook is full of fun, heart-healthy recipes, with insight into the proven technique of cooking with color!  You will incorporate more fruits and vegetables in your diet.  Did you know……

  1. Eating a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables is directly linked to a longer, healthier life.
  2. Eating more fruits and vegetables offers a variety of health benefits, improves your quality of life and lowers your risk for heart disease and stroke.
  3. Most people don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. Only about 1 in 10 U.S. adults eat the recommended daily amounts. On any given day, 27% of 2 and 3-year-olds do not eat a vegetable and among those who do, fried potatoes are the most common.
  4. Just 2.5 cups of fruits and vegetables daily could reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.
  5. If Americans ate just one more serving of fruits or vegetables per day, this would save more than 30,000 lives and $5 billion in medical costs each year, according to one estimate.

By adding more fruits and veggies to my diet and incorporating some exercise, I am on the right track of becoming a healthier version of myself.  I recently had surgery, therefore walking with the Walking Weights is my go-to work out for now.  However, according to one study, just 25 minutes of brisk walking a day can add up to seven more years of life expectancy. They say walking is the most popular form of exercise.

·       Walking improves your blood pressure, blood sugar and blood cholesterol levels.

·       Walking reduces your risk of serious diseases, stroke, diabetes and several types of cancer.

·       Walking also is known to improve your mental and emotional well-being and reduce the risk of depression.

Nearly 30% of adults do not engage in leisure-time physical activity.  If you are struggling with high blood pressure, heart issues, lack of proper exercise, or stress and want to live a healthier life. I encourage you to try the Let’s Be Well Healthy Heart Starter Box for $29.99.  I am on a journey to healthier lifestyle, and I would love for you to join me.

  1. My Mom made vegetables with every meal and it is something that I continue to do with my own children. It always amazes me how many of their friends are used to just fried potatoes. However, I do have a lot of other areas I need to work on and I think this box would be a great start!

  2. We try to take a walk at least 5 times per week. When the weather is cooler, I aim for everyday! My dad died at a newly turned 52 from heart disease.

  3. I’ve never tried walking with weights before but have heard others say it’s really helpful. I’m recovering from surgery and am actually looking forward to being able to use my foot as usual again sometime hopefully this year.

  4. So incredibly important to take care of your health. Many of our issues are hereditary. So glad you are taking care of yourself. I try to eat as healthy as possible and walk my dog 2-5 miles a day. She keeps me young.
