HealthPlan USA Helped Save Me From A Stroke

I was lying in bed asleep at 3a.m. the morning of the Motivated Mom Retreat.  I was tossing and turning quite a bit and felt that I could not relax.  I turned on my back because my left arm started going numb, which I thought was due to me laying on it.  Some time later, I felt a lot of pain in my left shoulder and my arm started tingling so I sat straight up in the bed.  I was shaking my arm trying to easy the numbness, but it wasn’t working.  I knew something was very wrong.  I grabbed my blood pressure wrist monitor to find my blood pressure at 197/154, I was at risk of a stroke.

I was terrified and needed immediate help and my doctor’s office was closed, so I opened my Health Advocate app from my HealthPlan USA and phoned a nurse.  Once I told her how high my pressure was, she found the nearest Urgent Care. She even checked to ensure that they were in-network.  I have to admit, I did not care about the costs at the time but I am so glad HealthPlan USA had me covered.

 

 

After spending a few hours at Urgent Care, I was released and able to get back to my Retreat.  I was told to take it easy and get plenty of rest.  As hard as it was to miss a lot of the opening day activities, I only conducted one interview and went back to my room to rest.
