Wow… what a year!  I am so thankful to be alive today.  My heart is full of gratitude, hope and love as I think about this year and my expectation for 2021.  I usually write my year in review by month, highlighting an event or events, special moments, or experiences.  This year was so different I can hardly remember what happened.  Honestly, I mostly remember being ill and scared.  My mind tried to tell me that I was unproductive and stuck, but that lie didn’t take root – I needed the time to rest, reflect, and recharge.  So, I decided instead of writing a review, I would write how to make the most of 2021!

Be More Grateful.

2020 taught me the importance of being grateful.  Gratitude will help you see that what you have is truly enough, more than enough in many cases.    Studies show that gratitude makes you happier by like 25%.  Yup, you can be happier by appreciating and counting the blessings in your life.  Resolve to be more grateful in 2021.

Be More Kind.

I know some people make it difficult to be kind, be kind anyway… especially to yourself.  Kindness is the key to being a better version of yourself.  This year make a resolution to be more kind to yourself and others.  Decide today that you will be a better companion to yourself and a better contributor to the world by being kind.

Be at Peace.

Peace comes with letting go of the things you can’t control and accepting what is.   Forgive, don’t judge, and teach your mind to be still.  Peace that surpasses all understanding is a wide range of notions including harmony, security, completeness, fulfillment, and wellbeing.  Make this year a year to bring more peace in your life.

Be Positive.

Being positive does not exclude you from problems, complications, or hurt.  It does however help you manage those things better.  Having a positive attitude can literally change the effects of fear and increase your level of happy.  Having a positive attitude opens your mind to new possibilities, it makes you more resilient, and it can even help you to live longer. Welcome 2021 with a smile and a new habit of building a positive attitude.

Be More Confident.

Confidence is tied to nearly every element of a successful and happy life.  The importance of confidence cannot be overstated. It allows you to live your life for yourself – happier, healthier, more relaxed, courageous, and sexier!  Yup, confidence is indeed sexy.  Set a goal this year to become more confident.  Hey be careful though, there is a fine line between confidence and cocky.  IJS.

Be a Mover.

Ludacris said it best, “move get out your way, get out your way, get out your way.”  Okay, maybe I put words in his mouth…but it was something like that.  LOL.  Point is, if you aren’t moving and exercising your body, you are in your own way.  You are putting yourself at risk of obesity, poor blood circulation, hormonal imbalance, and even a premature death.  This year become a mover and shaker.  Move your body and shake your butt to a good ole Zumba video, a stroll around the neighborhood, or a bike ride at the local park.  Let’s decide to be a mover and not live an inactive lifestyle.

Be a Lover of the Little Things.

The simple pleasures in life are most times the best.  There’s a song I love entitled “Dream Small” by Josh Wilson that says “dream small.  Don’t buy the lie you’ve got to do it all.  Just let Jesus use you where you are.”  The song  says “of course there’s nothing wrong with bigger dreams.  Just don’t miss the minutes on your way to bigger things.”  Being a lover of the little things helps you to focus your attention on what nurtures you or brings you the smallest amount of pleasure.  Let’s explore ways to love more the little things in life – like hearing the sound of a person’s voice that you love.

Be a Regular Reader.

I love reading but don’t always feel that I have time.  Reading keeps your brain active, helps expand your vocabulary, and is very tranquil.   I will be making time read more books this year, and I am hopeful that you will join me.  Make a list of a few books you’d like to read this year and get started.

Be a Dream Chaser.

Make time to pursue your dreams.  Don’t wait until you have more time or money – make the time to follow your dreams.  With everything that we must do, let’s resolve to dedicate an hour a day to chase our dreams with intentionality.  We can do this, and our dreams are worth it!

Be a Giver.

There are so many opportunities for us to impact someone’s life by giving.  Giving is not just beneficial to the recipient, you’ll benefit as well.  It doesn’t matter if you give a monetary donation, an hour of your time, or holding the door for a stranger – giving adds meaning and purpose to your life.  In 2021, resolve to be a giver.

Goodness, I feel so much better by writing this.  You should know, this list is for me.  I needed to tell myself exactly what to do to get the most out of 2021.  I desire to be a better, more profitable version of myself this year….and this list will keep me on track.  I hope it helps you as well.  Happy New Year!
