Simple Ways That We Can Care for Ourselves

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that on top of taking care of everyone around you the most important person in your life is you. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in taking care of family and friends to lose sight of yourself. Which is why it’s so important to find simple little ways to take care of ourselves.  Self-care is not just spas, vacations and hot baths…..it is ensuring that you are whole, healthy, peaceful, happy, and sane which may include doing a few of the following tasks:

Clean Up Your Social Media Feed

There’s a pretty good chance you’ve got someone on social media that drives you up a wall. It might be your Great Aunt Betty or it might be that guy you sorta knew in high school. You know the ones, always talking politics or they’re angry about everything. It’s time for a social media cleanup. If you don’t want to unfriend them because they’re family just mute them! This also applies for anyone who you feel like you need to “keep up with the Jones” with.

Drink More Water

Chances are you don’t drink enough water, most of us don’t. So why not work out a water drinking routine that works for you. It’s best if you drink water throughout the day so be sure to spread that water out.

Get Up and Stretch Once an Hour

Most of us these days spend our time sitting at a desk all day which means it’s very important to get up and stretch your muscles. After you stretch your body won’t be as tense and you’ll be ready to tackle more work. Plus it gives your mind a break from the constant work.

Go Outside Every Day

Going outside is so important for your health, both mental and physical. You should be getting at least 15 minutes of sun every day (without sunblock!) to take advantage of that vitamin d. Plus, being outside does amazing things for your mood. There are so many reasons you should go outside it’s as important as getting enough sleep.

Learn to Feel OK Saying NO

Sometimes saying no is the hardest thing in the world. You don’t want to disappoint anyone, but the truth is if we say yes to everything we’ll quickly be overextended, overworked, and we’ll burn out. If no is too hard for you to do right now start with maybe. You aren’t dedicating yourself to anything and it makes it easier to back out of whatever it is later.

Schedule Self-Care

Sometimes the only chance you’ll get for some self-care time is if you schedule it in. Spa trips get scheduled months or weeks in advance, so why not schedule time for journaling, meditation, or whatever other activity you feel you need?

Take a Break from the News

Depending on how old you are you may or may not be able to remember a time before 24 hours news. It used to be that you would only get your news two or three times a day and we were all a lot healthier for it. We weren’t constantly bombarded with depressing news stories from around the world that were bringing us down. If you’re feeling down for any reason, take a break from the news. News will only make you feel worse. I’ll tell you now, it is ok to ignore the news for a day, a week, or even a month if you need to. You don’t need permission, but if you feel like you do…now you have it.
