6 High Paying Jobs You Don’t Need to Go to College to Do

Let’s be honest for a few minutes here. College isn’t for everybody. It never has been and it never will be. The entire millennial generation has shown us what going into debt for college will do to you long term. Many millennials, now in their 30s and heading towards their 40s are still fighting to pay off college debt. That isn’t something I’d wish on anyone! But, it might come as a surprise, that there are a lot of high paying jobs that don’t require any time in college. That’s to say, jobs that pay well without you having ever gone tens of thousands of dollars into debt. Here are 6 high paying jobs you don’t need to go to college to do.

Real Estate Agents

So long as you have a high school diploma and you can pass a test you can be a Real Estate Agent. In 2019 the median income for a Real Estate Agent was $50,730 but you can make a whole lot more than that as people like Youtuber Graham Stephan have shown.

Plumbers

Because of the push for everyone to get college degrees more manual jobs like plumbing are a bit less common to see. Sure, it isn’t a childhood dream job, but after an apprenticeship, you could be earning $55,060 on average per year. Demand for plumbers is also on the rise, so this might just be the opportunity you’re looking for.

Railroad Conductors

Do you like trains? Railroad conductors, locomotive engineers, and rail yardmasters have a median income of $65,020. The biggest downside to this chosen career path is that it requires you to be in a certain place. So, if you like living where you are and that isn’t near a train…maybe try one of the other jobs on this list. On the other hand, if you want to try your hand at operating subway trains, you’re looking at a median income of $67,880!

Farmer

There is GOOD money in farming, but it is also a lot of work. The median income for farmers in 2019 was $71,160. Sure, there are agricultural degree programs out there, but really, you don’t need them. It does require you to have land though. But, with as little as an acre of land, you can start growing food to sell in farmer’s markets.

Elevator and Escalator Installers and Repairers

Those guys fixing your building’s elevator? Chances are they’re making about $85,000 a year! Not only are they making great money, but there is also a high demand for them which is only getting higher. All you need to become one is to have a high school diploma and do an apprenticeship.

Commercial Pilot

Ok, we’ve come to the end of the line, the big big bucks when it comes to high paying jobs that don’t require a degree. Commercial pilots in the United States make an average of $121,430 a year! There is quite a bit of training involved, but at $120,000 a year, it’s worth it. The biggest downside to the job is that you’ll end up spending a lot of time away from home. Some pilots can even earn $700,000 a year! If that isn’t proof that you can make good money without going into debt, nothing is.
