When the day to day stresses of life start to get to you and your goals or even happiness seem like they’re miles away it’s important to remember the joy that can be found in your life every day. So often we associate happiness with big milestones it can be easy to forget the little joys in life are what really makes life worth living. But when hope is lost it isn’t always easy to find that joy. Thankfully, there are some things we can do to help get us started.

Find Joy in Decluttering

Having a house full of things can raise anxiety and cause stress. I don’t know anyone who can be happy and stressed at the same time. Decluttering helps make it easier to find the joy in the things you have and your home as a whole. Use whatever method you’d like to declutter, Konmari is, of course, a fantastic option. By the end, you should only be left with the things that you really love.

Find Joy by Counting Your Blessings

When it feels like you’re trapped in a rut and your goals are unobtainable it’s important to remember what you have in life already. Take some time to count your blessings. This includes everything from good health to the warmth of the sun on a warm sunny day. When you take time to count your blessings it’s easier to find the joy in the little things.

Laugh

Laughing is a great way to boost your mood and help you on your trek to finding joy. Laughing with friends, at a comedy club, or even a favorite funny movie will all do it. Though it is always better to laugh with friends and family. Once you’re happy it can be easier to see through the fog to the little things.

Find Joy and Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Even if you don’t think you compare yourself to others you do. We all do it, it’s part of human nature. Social media thrives because people compare themselves to friends and strangers. Think about Instagram, people post pictures of their food or an exotic location and jealousy sets in. It isn’t just social media though. Maybe a co-worker got a new house or a neighbor got a new car. When you stop comparing yourself to them you can start being happy for them and yourself. Because you’ve got great things that you love too.

Take a Deep Breath and Live in the Moment

No matter where you are right now or what you’re doing I want you to take a deep breath and look around. What do you see? Is there anything that makes you smile? Keep doing this wherever you go. During your commute look for the gardens growing roses. Even watching pigeons can bring a smile to your face. There is joy to be found all around you but if you’re always thinking about tomorrow, always sitting with a screen in your face you’ll miss it. Once you start looking what you’ll really find is the joy in the little things, the joy in your life.
