When the day to day stresses of life start to get to you and your goals or even happiness seem like they’re miles away it’s important to remember the joy that can be found in your life every day. So often we associate happiness with big milestones it can be easy to forget the little joys in life are what really makes life worth living. But when hope is lost it isn’t always easy to find that joy. Thankfully, there are some things we can do to help get us started.
Find Joy in Decluttering
Having a house full of things can raise anxiety and cause stress. I don’t know anyone who can be happy and stressed at the same time. Decluttering helps make it easier to find the joy in the things you have and your home as a whole. Use whatever method you’d like to declutter, Konmari is, of course, a fantastic option. By the end, you should only be left with the things that you really love.
Find Joy by Counting Your Blessings
When it feels like you’re trapped in a rut and your goals are unobtainable it’s important to remember what you have in life already. Take some time to count your blessings. This includes everything from good health to the warmth of the sun on a warm sunny day. When you take time to count your blessings it’s easier to find the joy in the little things.
Laughing is a great way to boost your mood and help you on your trek to finding joy. Laughing with friends, at a comedy club, or even a favorite funny movie will all do it. Though it is always better to laugh with friends and family. Once you’re happy it can be easier to see through the fog to the little things.
Find Joy and Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
Even if you don’t think you compare yourself to others you do. We all do it, it’s part of human nature. Social media thrives because people compare themselves to friends and strangers. Think about Instagram, people post pictures of their food or an exotic location and jealousy sets in. It isn’t just social media though. Maybe a co-worker got a new house or a neighbor got a new car. When you stop comparing yourself to them you can start being happy for them and yourself. Because you’ve got great things that you love too.
Take a Deep Breath and Live in the Moment
No matter where you are right now or what you’re doing I want you to take a deep breath and look around. What do you see? Is there anything that makes you smile? Keep doing this wherever you go. During your commute look for the gardens growing roses. Even watching pigeons can bring a smile to your face. There is joy to be found all around you but if you’re always thinking about tomorrow, always sitting with a screen in your face you’ll miss it. Once you start looking what you’ll really find is the joy in the little things, the joy in your life.
I needed this reminder today, thank you 😉
I do find joy in decluttering and donating! I think those two go hand in hand!
I’m definitely going to keep these things in mind as I head into the next work week. Sometimes we forget the simple things!
Yup, it’s easy to forget the little things.
It is the little things that get me. A day of sunshine is all I need.
Mine is sunshine by water….
I love everything about this. I often compare myself to others and it is something I definitely have to stop doing.
Thank you! I sometimes compare myself as well. I am working at it too.
I love this. Too many of us get caught up in the day to day grind and forget to focus on the little things that make it all worth it. I know I do that too often.
Yes it is easy to get caught up.
There are so many little things we take for granted. It’s a good idea to just take a step back, take a deep breath, and think of the greatness of the little things.
It’s so important to look at the positive. I so agree with you about counting blessings and also in throwing away what we do not need or giving it to others.
I really love this post. I always find joy when decluttering. In fact, I just did some decluttering today and I’m still working on it. Feels great to get rid of things you don’t really need.
It does feel pretty good once its done.
